We all went through the POLO phase. At least we all who grew up in the 90’s and wanted to floss the Polo horse without spending much “Money”. In my case I always traded shit for Polo stuff stolen from the malls in Barcelona and Madrid. I never wanted to get my hand dirty, I always had skateboard stuff to trade, sell or whatever so I was good.
Also, I always thought that you had to be really good at stealing or you would be fucked up.
I tried to steal some Cds once, and we all ended up locked in the security room of FNAC, this big electronics store. This dude I knew used to change the price stickers in the regualar hiphop cds, and get the cheap stickers from the classical music Cds. The thing was, and thats why we got caught, you had a bunch of guys dressed as skateboarders (that was mid 90’s, so big pants and oversized polos/tees were a must) in the classical music section looking for cheap “on sale” cds. Pretty easy to see we were not Beethoven fans.
When they got us in the small room, they found my backpack full of my own cds (Around 15), so security guards were shomehow wondering if we stole those 15 cds aswell. I had to tell them they didnt have the first Tupac Cd in stock.
This documentary about the Lo-Lifes in NYC is amazing. My homies from Madrid back then were somehow a mini Lo-life crew.
Again, a 90’s focused post. Ah well…
